Most Playoff Games By a Montreal Canadiens Player

Seven of the 10 players with the most playoff games for the Montreal Canadiens spent their entire career with the franchise. 

Without them, the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup odds would have lengthened considerably. Nowadays, it’s rare to see players devote an entire career to one team, which makes their accumulation of playoff appearances all the more impressive.  

Only Bernie Geoffrion, Guy Carbonneau, and Larry Robinson played a playoff game for another team.

Canadiens With Most Playoff Games 

10. Claude Provost (126 Games)

Claude Provost played 126 playoff games and won nine Stanley Cups with the Habs from 1965 to 1969. Eight of his 14 postseason visits consisted of at least 10 games.

9. Bernie Geoffrion (127 Games)

Geoffrion played at least 10 games in his first nine postseasons. In 14 playoffs with the Habs, he won six Stanley Cups. 

8. Maurice Richard (132 Games)

Winning eight Stanley Cups over 15 postseasons, Maurice Richard won eight Stanley Cups in 132 playoff games for the Canadiens. 

He played at least 10 games in eight postseasons. 

7. Jacques Lemaire (145 Games)

Jacques Lemaire also won eight Stanley Cups over 145 playoff games with the Canadiens. He played 11 postseasons with the Habs from 1967 to 1979, nine of which with at least 11 games. 

6. Yvan Cournoyer (146 Games)

Yvan Cournoyer won the Stanley Cup 10 times with the Canadiens in only 12 playoffs. The only two playoffs in which he didn’t win the Cup were in 1972 and 1974. 

5. Guy Carbonneau (161 Games)

Of Carbonneau’s 231 playoff games, 161 were with the Canadiens. He played 12 playoffs with the Canadiens from 1982 to 1994, winning the Stanley Cup in 1986 and 1993. He won his third Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars. 

4. Jean Beliveau (162 Games)

One of the most illustrious playoff careers in the NHL, Jean Beliveau played 17 postseasons with the Habs from 1953 to 1971. He won 10 Stanley Cups across 162 games. 

3. Henri Richard (180 Games)

Henri Richard appeared in an incredible 18 playoffs with the Canadiens from 1955 to 1975. Nicknamed the “Pocket Rocket” after his older brother, Richard played 180 playoff games and won 11 Stanley Cups in a Montreal uniform.

2. Bob Gainey (182 Games)

Bob Gainey won five Stanley Cups with the Canadiens over 16 playoff runs. He played 20 games during the 1985-86 Cup run, the most in a single playoffs in his career. 

1. Larry Robinson (203 Games)

The only individual to play more than 200 playoff games with the Canadiens, Robinson made 203 postseason appearances across 17 seasons. He won six Stanley Cups with the Canadiens and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1978. 

He played his final 24 postseason games with the Los Angeles Kings.
