The Buffalo Sabres finished at the bottom of the NHL standings in 2014-15 and suffered a 14-game losing streak at the start of 2015.
That losing streak marked the start of a dreadful patch in which the Sabres won just six of 39 games.
T-4: Ottawa Senators (14 Games, 1992-93)
The Ottawa Senators were one of two teams to suffer a 14-game losing streak in the 1992-93 campaign.
They shared last place with the other team, the San Jose Sharks, whose losing streak consisted of 17 games.
The Senators lost 14 of 15 during another woeful streak, with the only exception a tie against the Calgary Flames. The Sens won one of their opening 22 games and finished with 24 points, the second-worst total in franchise history.
T-4: Quebec Nordiques (14 Games, 1990-91)
The 14-game losing streak contributed to the Quebec Nordiques finishing last in 1990-91. During the extended skid, the Nordiques scored 1.64 goals per game while allowing 4.64.
Despite not losing more than four in a row for the rest of the season, they finished nine points behind the second-to-last Toronto Maple Leafs.
T-4: Detroit Red Wings (14 Games, 1981-82)
The Detroit Red Wings’ 14-game losing streak came at the end of the 1981-82 season, condemning the team to second-to-last in the standings.
During the skid, the Red Wings conceded 5.21 goals per game, almost a goal more than their season average (4.39).
T-4: Kansas City Scouts (14 Games, 1975-76)
The Kansas City Scouts suffered three losing streaks of at least seven games, one of which lasted for 14 contests between Dec. 30 and Jan. 29.
They allowed at least five goals 10 times during the putrid run. The Scouts relocated to Colorado after the 1976 season.
3: Philadelphia Quakers (15 Games, 1930-31)
The 1930-31 regular season consisted of 44 games, and the Philadelphia Quakers lost more than a third in a row.
The Quakers were shut out five times during the 15-game losing streak, the third longest in NHL history.
T-1: San Jose Sharks (17 Games, 1992-93)
The Sharks’ dreadful 1992-93 season consisted of four losing streaks of at least nine games. They lost nine in a row once, 13 consecutively twice, and 17, tied for the most in NHL history.
The Sharks tied the Senators for last place in the standings, securing just 11 wins in 84 games.
T-1: Washington Capitals (17 Games, 1974-75)
The Washington Capitals won only eight of 80 games in 1974-75, enduring losing streaks of seven games twice, and nine, 10, and 17 contests.
The 17-game streak saw the Capitals allow at least five goals 15 times while scoring two or fewer 12 times.
