5. Roger Neilson (1982-1984)
Roger Neilson had a losing record during his 133 games in charge of the Canucks, but he led the team to the 1982 Stanley Cup Final after taking over for Harry Neale.
He galvanized the collective and led the team to a place few expected them to end up. For a franchise starving for success, his run to the final secured a spot on this list.
4. Rick Tocchet (2022-2025)
In two-and-a-half seasons behind the bench, Rick Tocchet made an indelible mark on the organization.
He won the Jack Adams Award in 2024, helped the Canucks win the Pacific Division for the first time and rubbed shoulders with the Stanley Cup odds favourites at the BetMGM sportsbook.
Tocchet has the second-best points percentage (.608) of any head coach in franchise history. And he found a way to win a playoff series, just the second time that has occurred since their 2011 run to the final.
3. Marc Crawford (1998-2006)
Marc Crawford led the Canucks to the playoffs in four of his first six seasons in charge, taking the team to the second round in 2003.
He is the second-longest tenured Canucks coach, pulling the strings behind the bench for 529 games. Only Alain Vigneault coached more games in Vancouver, and Crawford finished his tenure tied with Pat Quinn for the third-best points percentage (.554).
2. Pat Quinn (1991-1996)
Quinn spent four seasons as head coach, general manager, and team president before handing the reins to Rick Ley.
That move was short-lived, though, as Ley was relieved of his duties halfway through his second season behind the bench and replaced by Quinn, the man who appointed him.
Quinn was behind the bench when the Canucks advanced to their second Stanley Cup Final.
They lost to the New York Rangers in one of the best Stanley Cup Finals in NHL history.
1. Alain Vigneault (2006-2013)
The winningest coach in franchise history is also the best. Vigneault has the best points percentage (.632), which is more impressive considering he also coached the most games (540).
He’s also in the exclusive club of coaches to lead the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Final alongside Quinn and Neilson.
Like the others, Vigneault’s Stanley Cup Final left him, the team, and the city unfulfilled, with the Presidents’ Trophy winners falling in seven games to the Boston Bruins.
While Vigneault didn’t achieve his ultimate objective, he propelled the Canucks to consecutive Presidents’ Trophy successes.
