Three players are tied for the most 50-goal seasons in NHL history, two of whom scored 60 goals or more five times.

Leon Draisaitl, whose goal-scoring exploits impact the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup odds at the BetMGM sportsbook, has the most 50-goal seasons of any active player, with four.

Let’s roll through the players who tallied the most 50-goal seasons.

T-4. Mario Lemieux (6 50-Goal Seasons)

Mario Lemieux scored at least 50 goals for the first time in his third season, netting 54 in 1986-1987. Lemieux’s biggest goal-scoring haul came in 1988-89, when he scored 85.

Only Brett Hull (86) and Wayne Gretzky (92) scored more. Lemieux scored 60 or more four times and eclipsed the 70-goal threshold twice.

T-4. Marcel Dionne (6 50-Goal Seasons)

Marcel Dionne scored at least 50 goals six times, but never broke through the 60-goal barrier. He came closest in 1978-79, scoring 59 goals for the Los Angeles Kings.

All six of his 50-goal campaigns came with the Kings, as his biggest haul in three seasons with the New York Rangers was 31 goals in 1987-88. Dionne scored at least 53 goals in five straight seasons from 1978 to 1983.

T-4. Guy Lafleur (6 50-Goal Seasons)

Guy Lafleur secured all six of his 50-goal campaigns consecutively from 1974 to 1980. It’s no wonder the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup four times during that timeframe.

Lafleur’s only 60-goal campaign came in 1977-78. Excluding those six seasons, Lafleur never scored more than 30 goals.

T-1. Mike Bossy (9 50-Goal Seasons)

Alex Ovechkin, Mike Bossy, and Gretzky are the only players on this list to have scored 50 goals in their rookie season.

Bossy’s goal-scoring record is unparalleled, as he tallied at least 50 goals in nine of 10 seasons.

The exclusion came in his final season, when he scored 38 in just 63 games. Bossy scored at least 60 goals five times, registering the most (69) in 1978-79, his second season.

T-1. Alex Ovechkin (9 50-Goal Seasons)

Ovechkin scored at least 50 goals in four of his first five seasons, netting the most (65) in 2007-08.

The last time Ovechkin scored 50 goals was in 2021-22, and he surpassed the 60-goal barrier once. The Great 8 netted 31 goals in 2023-24, the lowest output in an 82-game season in his 21-year career.

T-1. Wayne Gretzky (9 50-Goal Seasons)

Gretzky tallied eight straight 50-goal seasons to kick off his NHL career, an unmatched record that aligns with his 13-straight 100-point seasons.

He holds the record for most goals in a season, scoring 92 in 1981-82, and he had five 60-plus goal seasons. The Great One didn’t eclipse the 50-goal barrier in his final 10 seasons.
