Since 2018 and through the 2024 season, there’s been one chance to bet on North Texas’s NCAA basketball odds. It came in 2021, and that year, North Texas advanced to the Round of 32, the furthest they’ve ever made it in the NCAA Tournament.

Despite that, you can bet on their basketball odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

See my list below of the five best North Texas Mean Green players of all time.

North Texas Mean Green All-Time Greatest Basketball Players

1. Tony Mitchell

Kicking off my list is a defensive stalwart in Mitchell. He played for North Texas from 2011 to 2013.

Across those two seasons, he averaged 13.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 2.9 blocks per game.

While he played just two seasons, Mitchell recorded 157 blocks, the most in program history.

He also holds the top-two single-season blocks records, headlined by 87 in the 2012-13 season.

He’s also tied for sixth in single-game rebounds at North Texas with 21 against Florida Atlantic during the 2011-12 season.

Mitchell was first-team All-Sun Belt, second-team All-Sun Belt, and was Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.

2. Kenneth Lyons

Lyons played for North Texas from 1979 to 1983, averaging 20.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game across 111 games.

Over his career, he had 2,291 points and 1,020 rebounds.

The points are the most in North Texas history, while the rebounds come in second.

Additionally, Lyons’ 728 points in the 1982-83 season is the second most in a single season in North Texas history.

His 47 points against Louisiana Tech during the 1982-83 season remain the most points scored in a single game by a North Texas player.

3. Chris Davis

Davis began his career at North Texas in 1998 but redshirted his freshman season after just two games.

Then, from 1999 to 2003, he averaged at least 18 points per game each season, with the most coming in at 22.5 as a redshirt junior.

As a senior, he averaged 19 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 0.7 steals per outing.

Davis was a two-time All-Sun Belt recipient.

As for career totals, he had 2,254 points (second) and 296 assists (fifth).

He ranks fourth in single-season scoring with 653 points during the 2001-02 season.

4. Josh White

White suited up from 2007 to 2011, scoring 1,668 points (fourth) and 331 assists (fourth).

Across his four seasons, he averaged 13.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 0.5 steals per game.

White was the first North Texas player to play 1,000 minutes or more in three straight seasons.

White was a member of the Sun Belt All-Tournament team in 2011, was third-team All-Sun Belt, and second-team All-Sun Belt.

5. Ken Williams

Williams played for North Texas from 1974 to 1978.

A rebounding machine, Williams led all of college basketball in that department in 1987. That type of statistical output led to him being an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American. That year, he had 411 rebounds, a North Texas single-season record, too.

Over his career, he had 1,095 rebounds (first).

He also holds the North Texas single-game rebound record with an eye-popping 29 in a game against Lamar in the 1977-78 season.

Williams averaged 8.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game across 107 games. As a senior, he averaged 14.7 rebounds and 11.5 points per game.
