Xavier Musketeers All-Time Greatest Basketball Players

1. David West

West played for Xavier from 1999 to 2003, during which time he was the Associated Press Player of the Year, won the Oscar Robertson Trophy (for most outstanding men’s basketball player), was a consensus first-team All-American, three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, and three-time first-team All-Atlantic 10. 

He recorded 1,308 rebounds (third in program history), 171 steals (10th), 2,132 points (third), and 228 blocks (first).

West also holds Xavier’s top two single-season blocks records, including 80 during the 2001-02 season.

He also holds the single-game block record with eight against Coastal Carolina during that same season.

Over 126 games, he averaged 16.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game. 

His No. 30 was retired by the school. 

2. Byron Larkin

Larkin scored 2,696 points over his four-year career at Xavier from 1984 to 1988, the most in Xavier history. 

He also had 201 steals (fifth).

Larkin was second-team All-American, third-team All-American, two-time MCC Player of the Year, and three-time MCC Tournament MVP.

He averaged 22.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. 

His No. 23 was retired by the program. 

3. Trevon Bluiett

Bluiett averaged 15.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.8 steals per game over his four-year stint at Xavier from 2014 to 2018. 

He was a consensus second-team All-American, AP Honorable Mention All-American, and three-time first-team All-Big East. 

He put up 2,261 points (second).

Bluiett’s No. 5 was retired by the school. 

4. Brian Grant

Grant was a two-time MCC Player of the Year, two-time first-team All-MCC, and two-time second-team All-MCC. 

Over his career, he had 1,080 rebounds (fourth) and 127 blocks (tied for fifth). 

He averaged 14.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. 

The school retired his No. 33. 

5. James Posey

He played three seasons at Xavier from 1996 to 1999, averaging 15.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game. 

Over his career, he had 214 steals (third). 

Posey was the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Atlantic 10, a member of the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team, Atlantic 10 Tournament MVP, second-team All-Atlantic 10, and two-time Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year.
