Raptors Title Odds Following Kawhi Leonard News
The Toronto Raptors NBA title odds are +3000, despite the Los Angeles Clippers announcing that any team that trades for Leonard will assume the risk of punishments following the NBA’s investigation into salary cap circumvention.
The investigation began in September 2025, but recent reporting has indicated it could run into 2027. It has been a drawn-out process, leaving both the Raptors and Clippers in limbo as the new season approaches.
On Aug. 6, Pablo Torre reported a second undisclosed sponsorship deal that could be under investigation from the league. This deal was allegedly with Daktronics, a company that provides video screens for various sports teams around the world, including the Clippers. It is alleged Leonard had a deal for “millions of dollars” as a spokesperson for Daktronics.
Adam Silver was keen to have the investigation wrapped up before the start of the season when he spoke publicly in July, but that seems increasingly unlikely. If the Clippers are found guilty of salary cap circumvention, they could face millions of dollars in fines, lose first-round picks, or see Leonard’s contract voided.
Toronto’s trade for Leonard will not be finalized until punishments are confirmed. In July, the Clippers once again stated that they did not funnel money to Leonard through Aspiration and that they were the victims of fraud.
What Is Kawhi Being Investigated For?
Leonard and the Clippers are being investigated for a $28 million, “no-show” endorsement deal with Aspiration.
A now-bankrupt green banking company also had a $300 million endorsement deal with the Clippers. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer was an investor in the company.
The NBA’s investigation began almost a year ago. The independent investigators have interviewed Leonard as part of the inquiry.
Why Did the Clippers Trade Kawhi?
It appears that neither the Raptors nor the Clippers knew about how the investigation would impact a potential trade when they agreed to the deal.
Los Angeles opted to trade Leonard in an effort to get younger. The Clippers were clearly reluctant to hand the future Hall of Famer a contract extension and preferred to acquire draft assets to build around Darius Garland, whom they landed in the James Harden trade midway through the 2025-26 season.
