Boise State Broncos All-Time Greatest Football Players
1. Ashton Jeanty
Jeanty’s time at Boise State ended after a loss in the College Football Playoff to Penn State.
However, after his sensational 2024 campaign, I’d consider him the best Boise State player ever.
As a freshman in 2022, he had 156 carries for 821 yards and seven touchdowns.
He followed that up with a 2023 season in which he ran 220 times for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 43 passes for 569 yards and five touchdowns.
He truly made his mark in 2024.
Jeanty finished the season with 374 carries for 2,601 yards, 29 rushing touchdowns, 23 receptions for 138 yards, and one touchdown. He was the runner-up for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, losing to Colorado Buffaloes cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter in the closest race since Mark Ingram beat Toby Gerhart in 2009.
While he didn’t win the Heisman, he did win the Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award, and was named a unanimous All-American, the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, and was first-team All-Mountain West.
He ranks second all-time in single-season rushing yards, trailing Barry Sanders by just 27.
It’ll be difficult for any Boise State player to replicate his success.
2. Kellen Moore
NFL fans may know Moore as an offensive coordinator, but before his involvement in the NFL, he was the best quarterback the Broncos have ever seen.
Moore played at Boise State from 2008 to 2011 and holds records in passing yards (14,667), passing touchdowns (142), total yards (14,534), and total touchdowns (145).
He also holds the top two single-season records in passing touchdowns, with 43 in 2011 and 39 in 2009.
Moore was a two-time Quarterback of the Year, two-time first-team All-American, two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year, MWC Offensive Player of the Year, WAC Freshman of the Year, two-time first-team All-WAC, first-team All-MWC, and second-team All-WAC.
He led the Broncos to several bowl game wins, his last being a 56-24 win over Arizona State in the Maaco Bowl.
Moore had just 28 interceptions across 1,658 attempts in four seasons.
He’s enshrined in the Boise State Athletics Hall of Fame.
3. Ian Johnson
Johnson played for the Broncos from 2005 to 2008.
He finished his career with 4,183 rushing yards (third) and 58 rushing touchdowns (first).
As a sophomore, he had 277 carries for 1,713 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns.
He was first-team All-American, two-time first-team All-WAC, and second-team All-WAC.
4. Ryan Clady
Clady, the No. 12 overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, played at Boise State from 2005 to 2008 (he redshirted in 2004).
He was a consensus All-American in 2007, second-team All-American in 2006, and two-time first-team All-WAC.
He was the left tackle during the Johnson and Moore playing days.
5. Jay Ajayi
Ajayi played at Boise State from 2012 to 2014 after redshirting in 2011.
He had just 82 carries for 548 yards and four scores as a redshirt freshman.
From there, he went on to have 249 carries for 1,425 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2013.
Then, in 2014, he exploded for 347 carries, 1,823 yards, and 28 touchdowns.
He finished his Boise State career with 3,796 rushing yards (fifth) and 50 rushing touchdowns (tied for second).
He ranks second in single-season records in rushing yards (1,823 in 2014) and rushing touchdowns (28 in 2014).
He was a two-time first-team All-MWC.
6. Doug Martin
Before Ajayi, Boise State had Martin from 2007 to 2011. He redshirted in 2007 after garnering just one carry.
From 2008 to 2009, he had just 153 total carries.
In 2009, he had 129 carries and 15 touchdowns.
He finished his career with 3,431 rushing yards (eighth) and 43 rushing touchdowns (sixth).
7. Kyle Wilson
Wilson was a lockdown cornerback for the Broncos from 2005 to 2009.
He finished his career with 125 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, 11 interceptions, two pick-sixes, and two forced fumbles.
Wilson also returned punts. He had 63 returns for 793 yards and three touchdowns.
He was second-team All-American, two-time first-team All-WAC, and second-team All-WAC.
Wilson was drafted No. 29 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
