Who Has Won the Most Open Championships? 

Harry Vardon has won the most Open Championships with six, one more than the following quartet: James Braid, John Henry Taylor, Peter Thomson, and Tom Watson. 

Vardon won his first four in eight years, from 1896 to 1903. He didn’t win his fifth championship until 1911, which he followed by adding his sixth in 1914. 

World War I prevented the winningest British Open champion from adding to his collection. 

If golf betting were possible back then, Vardon would have consistently been near or at the top of the odds leaderboards.
