Below, I’ll go over how much prize money the FedEx Cup winner will earn in 2025 and how the Tour’s recent changes to the playoff system will affect payouts this year.
How Much Does the FedEx Cup Winner Get?
The first-place prize for the 2025 FedEx Cup winner is $10 million, a sizable decrease from the $25 million bonus that Scottie Scheffler earned for winning the FedEx Cup last season.
However, Scheffler could still collect the same payday this August if he maintains his place at the top of the FedEx Cup standings.
In May, the PGA Tour announced significant changes to the FedEx Cup Playoffs format, including a three-tiered bonus structure and the end of starting strokes at the Tour Championship.
Starting in 2025, bonuses will be paid out to players at the beginning of the playoffs (following the Wyndham Championship), after the BMW Championship, and after the Tour Championship.
The top 10 players in the standings after the Wyndham will earn a bonus before the playoffs begin, with the leader earning $10 million.
The top 30 players following the BMW Championship, aka those who qualify for the Tour Championship, will receive a bonus before heading to the season finale at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The leader at this stage will earn a further $5 million.
All 30 players will then receive their final bonuses based on their positioning at the Tour Championship, which will no longer feature starting strokes.
Myself and many others in the golf betting sphere are particularly excited about the last tidbit, as there will no longer be separate PGA Tour odds with and without starting strokes.
What Is the Final Payout for the FedEx Cup?
The final payout for the FedEx Cup is now essentially the prize money for the Tour Championship.
Per the new bonus structure, $40 million of the FedEx Cup’s $100-million prize pool will be awarded following the season finale, with a quarter of that total going to the winner.
The decision to remove starting strokes should only increase the excitement around the Tour Championship, as it gives the entire 30-player field a fair chance at securing the top prize.
Is the FedEx Cup Payout an Annuity?
In previous years, players had the option to take FedEx Cup payouts as lump-sum bonuses or deferred annuities.
Now, all FedEx Cup payouts are paid out immediately as bonuses.
