Saquon Barkley First Touchdown Scorer (+400)

Barkley has been a scoring machine this season, and I don’t anticipate that’ll stop in Super Bowl 59. 

During the regular season, he scored 15 touchdowns (13 rushing, 2 receiving) and has added five more over the last two playoff games. 

He has scored the first touchdown in six games for the Eagles this season, the most among any player in the Super Bowl. 

Barkley gets plenty of carries and opportunities. He can also score in many ways, whether a red zone run or a long run. After all, he has 54 rushes that have gone for 10-plus yards this season.

There’s a reason he’s the odds-on favourite to get it done. 

Jalen Hurts First Touchdown Scorer (+650)

The Eagles have another dynamic rushing threat in quarterback Jalen Hurts. This season, including the playoffs, Hurts has 18 rushing touchdowns. He had 14 during the regular season and has four in the playoffs, including three in the NFC championship game.

He’s a threat to run at any time. 

Hurts scored the first touchdown in three Eagles games this season. 

The Chiefs have allowed opposing quarterbacks 39 rushing yards or more in each of the last four games. However, they’ve only allowed four touchdowns to the position all season, with the most recent coming in Week 17.

That said, Hurts has scored in all but six games this season. 

If the Eagles get down in the red zone, watch out for Hurts. 

DeVonta Smith First Touchdown Scorer (+1700)

While Smith hasn’t scored the first touchdown in any game this season and hasn’t scored since Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys, I think he has an excellent matchup. 

Chiefs outside cornerback Trent McDuffie will likely be tasked with covering fellow Eagles receiver A.J. Brown. 

Smith primarily lines up in the slot, and opposite him will be Chiefs slot cornerback Chamarri Conner. 

While Conner has only allowed two touchdowns this season, with the most recent coming in Week 18, he’s allowed 57 catches on 67 targets (85.1%). 

This is important as Smith could be dealt a number of targets to help the Eagles advance the ball down the field. 

Further, Smith ranks 27th among all receivers with at least 50 targets in yards after the catch with 356. That accounts for nearly 43% of his total yardage this season. 

I could see a scenario where Smith makes a reception on Conner and takes one in for a touchdown, regardless of where he’s at on the field. 

JuJu Smith-Schuster First Touchdown Scorer (+3500)

Finally, I’ll mention a long shot. 

Smith-Schuster isn’t used much in the Chiefs offence, but he’s one of the starting outside receivers. 

He’s coming off an AFC championship where he saw three targets, caught two of them, and had 60 yards. These figures were either tied or the best he’s had this season since Week 5. 

Across from him will be Eagles cornerback Darius Slay. Now 34, Slay has slowed down a bit this postseason. 

He’s allowed touchdowns in back-to-back games and 11 catches on 19 targets. 

The Eagles will be eager to keep Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and speedy wide receiver Xavier Worthy in check. 

This could open up some potential for Smith-Schuster to have a surprising first score of the game.
