Which MLB Teams Have Never Won a World Series?

The New York Yankees are by far the most successful team in MLB history, but what about the teams at the other end of the spectrum? Five franchises have never won a Fall Classic.

These teams have had stints as favourites in the MLB betting markets, yet have not been able to translate that into playoff glory. Four of the five have made at least one World Series appearance.

Which MLB Teams Have Never Won a World Series?

Colorado Rockies

It’s not often the BetMGM online sportsbook has priced the Colorado Rockies among the World Series favourites. Colorado has only made five playoff appearances in its history and has never won the NL West.

The Rockies did reach the World Series in 2007, but were swept by the Boston Red Sox, with Mike Lowell claiming World Series MVP. The Rockies scored 10 runs in four games.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers made their lone World Series appearance in 1982, losing 4-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Milwaukee lost the 2018 NLCS to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games and was swept by the same opponent in the 2025 NLCS.

Winners of 97 games in 2025, the Brewers have been perennial contenders over the last decade, but have yet to turn that into success in October.

San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres reached the World Series in 1984 and 1998. They lost those series 4-1 to the Detroit Tigers and 4-0 to the New York Yankees, respectively.

The closest the Padres have come to winning a title since then was an NLCS appearance in 2022. The series was lost 4-1 to the Philadelphia Phillies. Large payrolls and star-studded rosters haven’t delivered in the postseason for the Padres.

Seattle Mariners

The only active franchise to never play in a World Series, the Seattle Mariners suffered an agonizing loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 ALCS. Seattle became the first team to lose an ALCS after taking a 2-0 lead on the road.

Toronto ultimately won Game 7 thanks to a clutch home run from George Springer. The Mariners have lost the ALCS on four occasions.

Tampa Bay Rays

Since playing their first MLB season in 1998, the Tampa Bay Rays have won four AL East titles and twice appeared in the World Series. The first of their Fall Classic appearances was a 4-1 loss to the Phillies in 2008, followed by a 4-2 loss to the Dodgers in 2020.

The Rays have won on both occasions they have reached the ALCS. Nine playoff appearances since 2008 is an impressive feat in a highly competitive division.
