The Toronto Blue Jays acquired Ty Southisene and Brett Bateman from the Chicago Cubs for Kevin Gausman.

Southisene’s arrival won’t have an immediate impact on the baseball betting markets at the BetMGM online sportsbook, but could he be a difference-making player in the future?

What Is Ty Southisene’s Prospect Ranking?

MLB Pipeline ranks Southisene as Toronto’s 17th-best prospect after the 2026 MLB trade deadline. The shortstop was ranked 10th in the Cubs’ system by Baseball America.

Southisene has never ranked inside the top 100 prospects.

What Was Southisene’s Signing Bonus?

Selected 120th overall in the 2024 MLB draft, Southisene received an over-slot signing bonus of $1 million from the Cubs.

The diminutive infielder is one of four baseball-playing brothers. His twin is a college pitcher, one of his younger brothers was drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Braves in 2025, and the youngest of the four has committed to Oregon State.

What Are Southisene’s Stats?

Across rookie ball, Single-A, and High-A, Southisene has played 157 games with a .724 OPS. He’s walked 104 times to 96 strikeouts and has stolen 72 bases.

A lack of power is a concern, however. He’s not hit a home run in those 157 games. Patience at the plate is Southisene’s biggest skill, and there are some encouraging signs that suggest he could stick at shortstop long term.

Too many of his plate appearances end in soft groundballs, which is something the Blue Jays will look to address. Only six minor-league hitters had a higher groundball rate in 2025, and Southisene had the third-worst isolated power.
