At the BetMGM online sportsbook, you’ll find numerous ways to participate in football betting, including college football in the United States. It’s safe to assume most are aware of the CFL, but do colleges in Canada have football teams?
I know I don’t often hear about it, so below, I want to examine whether or not they exist.
Are There Football Teams at Canadian Colleges and Universities?
Yes, colleges in Canada have football teams, but there aren’t any college football betting markets for them at the BetMGM online sportsbook.
In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected offensive tackle Giovanni Manu in the fourth round and No. 126 overall out of the University of British Columbia. He played for the UBC Thunderbirds.
Additionally, Thunderbirds offensive tackle Theo Benedet signed a contract with the Chicago Bears.
A couple of huge jumps to kick off the UBC Pro Day.

Are College Sports a Thing in Canada?
Yes. In Canada, U Sports football is considered the highest level of amateur play. Four conferences exist, including the Atlantic University Sport, Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Ontario University Athletics, and Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
In all, there are 27 football teams.
Again, other sports fall under U Sports. The sanctioned sports include basketball, ice hockey, soccer, wrestling, football, and more.
