Rutgers Scarlet Knights All-Time Greatest Football Players
1. Ray Rice
Rice played for Rutgers from 2005 to 2007, and while there, he set program records with 4,926 rushing yards and 49 rushing touchdowns, which stand today.
Additionally, he ran for 2,012 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2007, both single-season Rutgers records.
He was first-team All-American, second-team All-American, and two-time first-team All-Big East.
2. Marco Battaglia
A unanimous All-American, Battaglia played tight end for the Scarlet Knights from 1992 to 1995.
He finished his career with 171 catches (fifth in program history) for 2,221 yards (seventh) and 16 touchdowns (tied for 7th).
In addition to being a unanimous All-American, Battaglia was the Big East Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Big East.
3. Brian Leonard
Leonard was a fullback/running back at Rutgers from 2003 to 2006.
He ran 678 times for 2,775 yards (sixth) and 32 touchdowns (tied for third).
He also caught 207 passes (second) for 1,868 yards and 13 touchdowns (10th).
Leonard was a freshman All-American and two-time first-team All-Big East.
4. Kenny Britt
One of the most explosive players in Rutgers history, wide receiver Kenny Britt, lands at No. 4 on my list.
He was the No. 30 overall draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft after playing at Rutgers from 2006 to 2008.
He caught 178 passes (fourth) for 3,043 yards (first) and 17 touchdowns (tied for fifth).
Britt was third-team All-American, first-team All-Big East, and second-team All-Big East.
5. Mike Teel
Rutgers hasn’t exactly had the most stellar quarterback play in its history, but Teel stands out among the rest.
He played for the program from 2005 to 2008, racking up 9,383 passing yards (first), 59 passing touchdowns (second), 9,173 total yards (first), and 61 total touchdowns (second).
Teel also holds single-season records in passing yards (3,418) and passing touchdowns (25).
In 2006, he led Rutgers to a win over Louisville, ranked No. 3 at the time.
Coincidentally, in 2008, against Louisville, he threw for 447 yards and seven touchdowns. These are single-game Rutgers records.
