  • Bo Jackson had 1,786 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in 1985 and won the Heisman Trophy.
  • Cam Newton had 50 total touchdowns in 2010, and he won the national championship and the Heisman Trophy.
  • Carlos Rogers had 40 pass deflections, which is the second-most in SEC history.

At the BetMGM online sportsbook, the Auburn Tigers’ college football odds will continue to attract a lot of attention due to their prestige in the SEC.

This is a far cry from what the Tigers football odds were during 2010, the last time they won a national title. That 2010 win was their second championship and first since 1957.

Still, many incredible players have come out of Auburn, and below, I’ll rank the seven best players the program has produced.

Auburn Tigers All-Time Greatest Football Players

1. Bo Jackson

Playing for the Tigers from 1982 to 1985, Jackson remains the Tigers all-time leading rusher with 4,303 yards. He also ranks second in rushing touchdowns with 43, two shy of the lead.

His best season came in 1985 when he had 278 carries for 1,786 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Those totals were good enough to land him the following accolades that season:

  • Heisman Trophy
  • Walter Camp Award
  • SEC Player of the Year
  • SN Player of the Year
  • UPI Player of the Year
  • Chic Harley Award
  • Unanimous All-American
  • First-team All-SEC

On top of that award, he was a consensus All-American in 1983 and first-team All-SEC in 1982 and 1983.

His No. 34 was retired by the team, and he’s in the College Football Hall of Fame.

2. Cam Newton

Newton played just one season for Auburn, but it was more than good enough to be second on the list.

That year, he threw for 2,854 yards, 30 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions, and rushed 264 times for 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns.

So, in all, that’s 4,327 total yards and 50 touchdowns.

Needless to say, he won the Heisman Trophy that year with flying colours, racking up 729 first-place votes. Andrew Luck was second with 78.

His 2010 season brought Auburn its first national title in more than 50 years, and he won several other awards that season, including the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Manning Award, Davey O’Brien Award, and more.

What makes it all the more impressive is that he started his career at Florida, where he had 12 career attempts, played one year at junior college Blinn, and then had arguably the best single season in college football history.

3. Pat Sullivan

Sullivan played three seasons for the Tigers from 1969 to 1971 and holds the record for passing touchdowns with 53. He also ranks fifth in passing yards (6,284), fourth in total offence (6,843), and first in touchdowns responsible for (71).

His 1971 season, during which he threw for 2,012 yards, 20 touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns, earned him the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award, SN Player of the Year, Chic Harley Award, and unanimous All-American honours.

His No. 7 was retired by the team.

4. Tracy Rocker

The first defensive player on my list is Tracy Rocker. Playing for the Tigers in the mid-1980s, Rocker was the SEC Player of the Year, Outland Trophy winner, unanimous All-American, first-team All-SEC, and also won the Lombardi Award in 1988.

In addition, he was a consensus All-American in 1987 and received two other first-team All-SEC nods in 1986 and 1987.

He ranks seventh all-time in tackles (354) and third in sacks (21). He also had 48 tackles for loss in his career.

5. Carlos Rogers

Rogers played for Auburn from 2001 to 2004. During that time, he won the Jim Thorpe Award, was a consensus All-American, and was first-team All-SEC.

Over four years, Rogers started 44 games and had 182 tackles (134 solo), seven interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

He also holds the school record for pass deflections with 40. That’s also second in the history of the SEC.

6. Terry Beasley

A wide receiver for Auburn from 1969 to 1971, Beasley was a unanimous All-American (1971), second-team All-American (1970), two-time first-team All-SEC (1970 and 1971), second-team All-SEC (1969), and his No. 88 was retired by the team.

He ranks fourth all-time in receptions (141), first in receiving yards (2,507), and first in receiving touchdowns (29). He held the receptions record until 1998.

Beasley is in the College Football Hall of Fame.

7. Carnell “Cadillac” Williams

A first-team All-American, the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year, and a two-time first-team All-SEC recipient, Williams, known mostly by his moniker “Cadillac,” holds the Tigers record in rushing touchdowns, beating Bo Jackson’s 43 with 45. He also ranks second in rushing yards (3,831), eighth in touchdowns responsible for (46), and holds the single-game rushing touchdowns record with six in 2003 against Mississippi State.

Now the running backs coach for the Las Vegas Raiders, Williams served on the Tigers coaching staff from 2019 to 2023 in roles like running backs coach, interim head coach, and associate head coach.

He averaged 5.2 yards per carry over his career and had double-digit rushing touchdowns in three straight seasons.
