Sri Lanka face New Zealand in Colombo on Wednesday. The Kiwis are cricket betting favourites at the BetMGM online sportsbook. Sri Lanka, the co-hosts of this tournament, will be eliminated from the World Cup with defeat.

Despite keeping England to a below-par score on Sunday, Sri Lanka were beaten heavily. Their batting lineup faltered with a string of poor shots, leading to a heavy net run rate loss. New Zealand had to settle for one point from their opening Super Eight match after Saturday’s match against Pakistan was washed out.

Sri Lanka vs. New Zealand Predictions

I predict New Zealand will beat Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup on Wednesday.

After a strong start to this tournament, Sri Lanka have suffered consecutive defeats. New Zealand’s only defeat came at the hands of South Africa, who have been the best team in this World Cup.

Sri Lanka vs. New Zealand Best Bets

Sri Lanka’s batters struggled on a slow pitch on Sunday. There’s a good chance this pitch will be sluggish after some heavy rain in Colombo over the weekend.

Defeats to Zimbabwe and England will have really damaged Sri Lanka’s confidence. Their batting lineup misfired completely on Sunday, and their bowling attack will find it harder to keep the New Zealanders under control.

I have loved what Tim Seifert and Finn Allen have done at the top of the order. Matheesha Pathirana’s absence makes Sri Lanka more vulnerable. That could be exposed by the Kiwi openers. I predict Seifert will score over 23.5 runs.

For Sri Lanka, they will need a big innings from Kusal Mendis if they don’t get ideal batting conditions. He can be the foundation for a competitive score with others batting around him. Kusal is +310 to be their top batter.

The psychological impact of blowing such a huge opportunity cannot be overstated. Sri Lanka’s resilience will be tested on Wednesday. New Zealand, meanwhile, will be alive even if they don’t win this one.
