The Cavs are largely bringing back the same roster as last season but brought in Kenny Atkinson to replace J.B. Bicketstaff as their head coach.

They extended Donovan Mitchell on a three-year, $150.3 million deal. Jarrett Allen signed a three-year, $91 million extension. Evan Mobley signed a five-year, $224 million extension.

Cleveland Cavaliers 2024-25 Betting Prediction

Prediction: Over 48.5 Wins (-120)

I predict that the Cavs will win over 48.5 games next season.

Cleveland defeated the Orlando Magic in seven games in the first round of the playoffs last season but fell to the Boston Celtics in the next round, as Mitchell was held out of the final two games of that series.

Mitchell is an absolute bucket-getter in the prime of his career, as he can light it up from downtown both as a shot creator and on the catch-and-shoot.

Mitchell creates most of his looks. He can stick the midrange pullup jumper, aided by ball screens and his own ball-handling skills, which also gives him the runway to attack the rim with full force and throw down electrifying dunks or circus layups.

Darius Garland thrives as a catch-and-shoot 3-point shooter, but he doesn’t shoot as many as he should, especially with the ball being in Mitchell’s hands most of the time. For Garland to find more success next to Mitchell, he needs to move off the ball more often, whether he’s cutting off the ball or freeing himself off of off-ball screens.

Garland’s speed and ball-handling skills help him break down defenders, giving him open looks at the rim, and he is a capable shot-creator, which still makes him dangerous next to Spida.

Evan Mobley is on his way to competing for Defensive Player of the Year awards for years to come, given his ability to swallow up his opponents’ shots on drives to the rim and keep up with them laterally. Mobley is a strong finisher and rebounder at the rim, pairing nicely with Garland and Mitchell.

Jarrett Allen gives Cleveland a nice Twin Towers look next to Mobley on both offence and defence, as both benefit greatly from lobs and shovel passes inside while possessing excellent cutting abilities for their size. Defensively, they put a ton of pressure on the rim. Allen serves as a nice line of defence behind Mobley when Mobley is guarding multiple positions away from the rim.

With Caris LeVert, a proven shot-creator, facilitator, and defender, leading the second unit alongside Max Strus, Isaac Okoro, Georges Niang, and Sam Merrill, the Cavs are in a prime position to hit the 50-win mark next season.

Mitchell, Garland, and Mobley all failed to play at least 60 games last season, and the Cavs still found a way to win 48 games. I expect better luck with health from at least two of those guys next season. With that said, reaching at least 50 wins shouldn’t be a problem for this group.
