Troy Trojans All-Time Greatest Football Players
1. Carlton Martial
A linebacker, Martial played at Troy from 2017 to 2022.
He recorded 565 tackles (first), which is also the most in college football history since the NCAA began keeping defensive records in 2000.
Martial was named the Sun Belt Male Athlete of the Year (2022), Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year (2022), a Freshman All-American, and was first-team All-Sun Belt four times.
2. DeMarcus Ware
Ware played for the Trojans from 2001 to 2004.
While there, he had 27.5 sacks (tied for sixth in program history).
He was the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. That same season, he was first-team All-Sun Belt.
Ware was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Decade Team, and in 2012, he was inducted into the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame.
3. Corey Robinson
Robinson played quarterback for Troy from 2010 to 2013.
He threw for 13,477 yards (first) and 81 touchdowns (first).
He finished his career with 13,141 total yards (first) and 84 total touchdowns (second).
He was the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and first and second-team All-Sun Belt.
Robinson also broke a record previously held by Steve Sarkisian, which was the highest completion percentage with a minimum of 30 attempts.
In a 34-31 thriller over UAB, Robinson completed 30 of 32 passes (93.8%).
4. Sim Byrd
Byrd was at Troy from 1966 to 1968 and played quarterback.
He threw for 7,619 yards (fifth) and 79 touchdowns (second).
He held the passing touchdown record until Robinson broke it 45 years later in 2013.
To this day, Byrd holds the single-season passing touchdown mark with 41 in 1968, a feat that not many could accomplish in those days with more limited passing attacks than today.
Troy went 24-8 with Byrd as their quarterback and led them to a national championship at the NAIA level in 1968.
He was a first-team NAIA All-American.
5. Brandon Silvers
Silvers was at Troy from 2014 to 2017 and played quarterback.
He threw for 10,684 yards (second) and 71 touchdowns (third).
He added 16 more rushing scores.
His 87 total touchdowns are the most in Troy history.
He was first-team All-Sun Belt in 2016.
